Resumo
In the festive landscape of rural Galicia, numerous abandoned music bandstands persist as structures that bear witness to a recent past and constitute a distinctive heritage of modern ruins. These constructions serve as material traces embodying the past, present, and future of community life woven around local festivities. Their presence in the campo da festa (festive grounds) of many Galician parishes—though often unused and falling into ruin—testifies to the transformations in the social, economic, and cultural ecosystems of their surrounding territories.

In this presentation, we propose an approach to these modern festive ruins through listening practices and field recording techniques. Our research explores the multiple sonorities embedded in the materiality of the campo da festa and music bandstands. Through diverse field recording methodologies, we investigate the possibilities of multi-scalar listening to understand how temporal passage and changing celebratory practices have left their imprint on the material remnants of festive landscapes. In doing so, we reveal not only the historical imprint left by these practices, but also the emerging space in which non-human entities can thrive, suggesting new pathways for future interactions with the environment
