Heritage, Pilgrimage and the Camino to Finisterre: Walking to the End of the World

2015. Inglés

Resumo
This book offers an analysis of how heritage policies affect the Camino landscape and daily lives of the populations along the route. It stems from an imbalance observed in studies of the Camino to Santiago de Compostela. The large number of studies of the pilgrimage itself contrasts with the near-absence of research into the effects of the pilgrimage on the daily lives of the populations who live along the route and the heritagization processes that the exploitation of the Camino for tourism purposes entails. As such, this book seeks to contribute to a redressing of the imbalance by providing a multiple perspective: that of the processes of ?heritagization?, that of the effects of the pilgrimage on local communities, and that of the motivations of the pilgrims. To do so, the book focuses on an unusual route: The Camino to Finisterre.
