Resumen
Isolated at the top of a hill at 902 m with great visibility of the surrounding landscape, Sala de Moros is an singular monument in Argamasilla de Calatrava (Ciudad Real, Spain), in northern Pre-Roman Oretanian territory. The main structures consist of a T-shaped chamber surrounded by a wall (Corchado, 1961), appreciably different from other remains in the nearbiest areas, such as the Prehistoric sepulchers at el Cerro del Bú (Argamasilla de Calatrava) or Bocapucheros (Almagro) (Benítez de Lugo and Esteban, 2018). Although little research has been done ‒in great part due to its present location in a hunting area‒, in the last years further studies about the morphology, landscape and orientation have been carried out, providing interesting hints about its origin and functionality. Here, an archaeoastronomical analysis of Sala de Moros is presented, where astronomical similarities with near Iberian settlements and buildings (Esteban et al., 2014; Esteban and Benítez de Lugo, 2016),suggest a likely ritual and funerary use of this space, probably to enhance the power of a particular aristocratic lineage according to a Iberian theocratic ideology influenced by Mediterranean cultures.
