Information Modelling for Archaeology and Anthropology: Software Engineering Principles for Cultural Heritage

2018. Inglés

Resumo
This book introduces readers to information modelling in the cultural heritage field.

The book aims to convey complex principles and techniques that traditionally belong to the knowledge or software engineering fields to cultural heritage specialists, who are rarely exposed to the engineering fields. The content will be delivered in an affordable way, so that readers can use the gained knowledge without the need for formal education in engineering.

The major themes are conceptual modelling and ontologies as they are today understood in the mainstream software and knowledge engineering communities. These topics are introduced informally and without explicit formalisms except when strictly necessary. ConML (www.conml.org) and CHARM (www.charminfo.org) are used for this. Complexity builds up gradually throughout the book.

The major intended audience is composed of teachers and students (undergraduate and graduate) in any area related to cultural heritage, including archaeology, anthropology, history, architecture or literature. Additionally, the book should be useful to other cultural heritage specialists in non-educational settings, such as heritage managers, researchers or professionals.
