Summary
The INCIPIT-CSIC has recently launched the CULTUR-MONTS project funded by the Interreg SUDOE Programme, in which we participate together with other 9 beneficiary partners, as well as 25 other associated entities from France, Spain and Portugal. The project aims to revitalise the social and productive structure of rural mountain areas in the Southwest of Europe through the enhancement of heritage connected to cultural landscapes. The ultimate objective is to mitigate the territorial, social and economic imbalances that exist in these territories in crisis, promoting social innovation through participatory contexts where local communities become principal actors in the enhancement of the heritage linked to traditional productive practices, among which pastoralist activities stand out.Since 2017 archaeological investigations carried out in Babia by INCIPIT emphasise the value of the cultural legacy resulting from the anthropization of this region since Late Prehistory. Therefore, the cultural traits of landscapes can hardly be overshadowed by the biodiversity or the natural values of the territory, currently a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. However, cultural heritage is poorly known and it has been undervalued as a tool for the revitalisation, innovation and sustainable transformation of the territory. This presentation examines the general objectives of the CULTUR-MONTS project, as well as the particular contribution of INCIPIT to this venture, aiming to explore synergies and potential collaborations within our community.
