Summary
Studies about heritage and the management of heritage have traditionally been linked to historians, architects, art historians and archaeologists. This situation has changed in the last decades, when other disciplines such as sociology, anthropology and economics started to focus on heritage related issues. However, holistic approaches for the critical study of specific questions regarding heritagization processes still need to be developed.The exploration of interdisciplinary approaches and methods on heritage is a useful tool to understand/identify/study the consequences of heritagization processes and to interpret complex social phenomena, such as the gap between heritage management and local agents. In particular, we will focus on the methodological challenges related to interdisciplinarity and team work when trying to analyze this gap, while exploring the logics underneath the discontinuities and distance between heritage policies and local expectations regarding heritage.Our analysis is based on fieldwork conducted along the Camino de Santiago route to Fisterra as part of a research project that focuses on the effects that this route is having on the local populations and the heritagization processes involved. This case study integrates various disciplines ?history, anthropology, sociology, archaeology?and various methods ?ethnographic fieldwork, surveys and archival work.
