Summary
In August 2018, archaeological research in the fortified site of La Cuesta (Trueitas, León) began, aiming to recognise the stratigraphic sequence of this settlement and to understand the biography of the cultural landscapes in the region of Cabreira. The excavation of an exploratory trench in the central area of the settlement revealed a late occupation that could be dated between the 4th and 5th centuries AD, considering the ceramic materials found. The structures that were recognised have been interpreted as a storage space. Also, the large amount of ferrous slags found on the surface of the site and in the surrounding area let us to consider an intense activity related to the processing of iron ores from nearby mineral deposits. In summary, this research allows us to assess the potential of the site for further investigations and help us to build preliminary hypotheses about the site that will inform our understanding about the transformations in the social, political and productive landscapes of Late roman period.
