Merry Christmas and all the best for the new year 2025.

From INCIPIT we want to close the year highlighting the importance of research, knowledge and memory.

This year, our greeting card celebrates a special tribute. We want to acknowledge and thank the work of all those who contribute to the advancement of knowledge, memory and research in these challenging times.

Firstly, we proudly celebrate the National Essay Prize 2024, awarded by the Ministry of Culture to Alfredo González-Ruibal for his magnificent work ‘Tierra Arrasada’. We also extend our congratulations to our latest R&C, Laura Muñoz-Encinar, whose work in forensic anthropology and the DESALAMBRAR project, in collaboration with Alfredo, deeply inspires us.

We also pay tribute to all our CSIC colleagues who work tirelessly in response to the DANA and, with it, to the victims of all disasters. This year, their work reminds us of the vital importance of science, knowledge and memory, especially at a time when misinformation, anti-science and "desmemoria" challenge our fundamental values.

Taking inspiration from something that CSIC President Eloísa del Pino expressed at the last meeting of CSIC Directors (held in Madrid at Dec 16 and 17), we have found the words that best reflect the message we wanted to convey. Wishing for happiness is not just banal. It is a profound act that reaffirms our commitment to humanity, to our communities and to the future.

In this spirit, we wish you all the best for 2025. May this New Year bring well-being, success and joy to all the institutes and research centres around and to all the people close to your heart.
